As most people are aware, children & young people are often perceived negatively as criminals and degenerates hanging about on street corners causing mayhem for the community. At Fundamental we are committed to working with both the community and young people to bridge the gap in understanding and quash the negative perceptions that often lead to ageism and discrimination. Through dedicating time and resources to working with tenants and residents, community groups and public officials and professionals, we are able to achieve a great deal not only within the community, but the lives of children & young people resulting in a reduction in crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour and discrimination.
“A staggering 86% of the children & young people on our programmes are referred to us by the police, schools, youth offending teams, Connexions and social care professionals."
Overall, this holistic approach to work ensures that community cohesion is achieved and everyone is working together to build a better future for the community and the lives of children and young people.
We are advocates and ambassadors when it comes to partnership working and have a huge base of partners whom we value being able to work with. There truly is power in unity and the work we do is living proof of that. Without building the strong relationships we have with schools, families, communities, professionals and agencies we would not be able to achieve the positive results we see in people's lives, thank you to you all!!Also, with having such a broad base of partners and supporters we have been able to lead on the development of the Voluntary Youth Sector through the development of the Wakefield Voluntary Youth Organisation's Network and working as an advocate and voice for the sector locally, regionally and nationally.

"Fundamental has been doing amazing work in the former mining district of Wakefield, reaching out a helping hand to young people in crisis. They not only look to reintroduce young people that have lost their way back into the community, but they also endeavour to support the family of that young person. Fundamental is one of a small number of local charitable organisations that really supports the young people of today, offering counselling, activities during the school holidays, training, and much more. It's great to see a charity providing great services for young people, their families and communities in such a positive and fun way."
